Peter Richter, Candidate for FL State Rep. stonewalled by ATS and Collier County, continues the fight against red light cameras

Peter D. Richter is taking a stand for liberty so that our children do not have to bow in slavery.  One of the areas that Richter continues to fight against crony capitalism and unconstitutional invasions of privacy is over the red light cameras in Collier County. Richter is an ardent opponent of the cameras and his efforts have led to his endorsement by BanTheCams.org, a grassroots organization dedicated to combat the abuse exercised by our state and local governments by use of the electronic surveillance cameras.

 “When big government grants sweetheart crony deals to big corporations, what inevitably happens is that the citizens get stuck holding the bag without any proper means to seek redress of grievances.  I have contacted numerous times the Collier County Clerk of Courts, American Traffic Solutions (ATS) and the Collier Sheriff to obtain and review their records regarding red light camera ticketing in my district. I was told during the last week of August by Diana Stamets in the Clerk of Courts office that the county doesn’t hold any of those records.  I was then directed to ATS who told me that they don’t have to deal with the public and that I should contact the Clerk’s office,” stated Richter.

Richter continued, “I then resubmitted my request to Ms. Stamets who then forwarded my request directly to ATS. On September 9th, ATS responded through the Clerk’s office stating that they ‘do not have a program for this report, so they would need to write one.’ On September 20th, Connie Deane (Collier County Community Liaison) responded back to me saying that they do not have the records responsive to my request. Finally, upon recommendation of Dwight Brock I contacted the Collier Sheriff who told me that they ‘don’t keep records of Notices of Violation relating to red light cameras’ either.”

“Is this the type of runaround and stonewalling that the citizens of Collier County can expect from the Clerk of Court’s Office, Collier Sheriff, and ATS? Are we honestly supposed to believe that none of these three agencies have records relating to red light citations from ATS’ cameras? When Big Government and Big Corporations band together via monopolies this is what inevitably results: unaccountability by government and corporations while the people bear the burden of the incompetence. One of the first things I’ll do when I’m elected is work to pass a bill banning red light cameras in our state. This is another issue my opponent and I disagree on but if it were up to her, you’d never know it because she’s desperately trying to hide her record.  If you want accountability, limited government, and an end to red light cameras in Florida cast your vote for me come November. I am the only fiscal conservative in this race, and the only one looking out for the people!” said Richter.
