ABD Hopes For Full Revelation of Speed Camera Statistics

The ABD have known for years by the devious way speed camera stats are manipulated and hidden by camera partnerships and local authorities that there must be much to hide. If they genuinely showed success they would be broadcasting them from the rooftops. In December when the proposal to publish statistics more openly was first announced, the ABD listed their requirements for full revelation enabling a proper analysis of effectiveness of cameras.  Note:  1
We hope that this will not be a 'fudge' and that the government will finally get a grip on the camera industry, and we urge the public not to accept anything less.

ABD Requirements For Speed Camera Statistics:

  • Full details of casualty & accident data per billion vehicle kilometres at each camera site 5 years either side of installation. This should include accident & casualty dates, estimated/reconstructed speeds of vehicles involved, directions of travel and distance from camera location.
  • Effects separated into 'fatal', 'serious injuries', and 'non serious injuries' rather than the misleading 'KSI' (Killed or seriously injured)
  • Causal factors in the accidents (drunk, drugged, unlicensed, stolen vehicle etc) and number of vehicle occupants (four injured in one minibus does not justify a camera)
  • Other changes to immediate road layout and significant area changes during the ten year period.
