Speed cameras no longer operating in Wiltshire
10:42am Friday 15th October 2010

FIXED speed cameras and mobile speed cameras are no longer operating in Wiltshire.

The police confirmed that the cameras were switched off yesterday.

The police announced in August that the cameras would be mothballed in October due to a funding shortfall.

The cameras were administered by the Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Camera Partnership with the police providing the staff and Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council providing the funding.

Speed enforcement will be carried out by Wiltshire's traffic police as well as volunteers in Community Speed Watch schemes.

Speed enforcement will be carried out by Wiltshire's traffic police and that's exactly what we need, the troops back on the streets, not offices full of back office jobsworths costing a small fortune and returning vitually nothing. It's been a long and painful return to common sense but it's about time.
