Mukilteo backs off plan for red light cameras

The City of Mukilteo is backing off a plan to put in red light cameras.

The City Council which had been planning to put cameras in school zones and along the Mukilteo Speedway voted to rescind a contract with an Arizona company to install the cameras.

Mayor Joe Marine says Tim Eyman's local initiative to ban red light cameras likely played a roll.

"When they're looking at 1900 signatures, I'm sure that there was some public pressure on there."

Eyman still needs to gather 400 signatures by Friday to get the initiative on the November ballot.
