SELMER, TN (WMC-TV) - Some Mid-South drivers are annoyed with a robot that reaches 30 feet in the air and issues tickets.

The traffic camera, known as the "Selmer Speed Tree", can be moved to different locations.  Some people in Selmer, Tennessee traveling from Pickwick to Memphis did not like the camera and complained.

A group even started a Facebook page with the locations of the Selmer Speed Tree so drivers could avoid it.

Driver Randy Rose said the mobile traffic camera was put in spots where the speed limit changed suddenly.

"I was doing 55," said Rose.

Rose was driving back from Pickwick with his family.  The speed limit suddenly changed to 45 miles per hour.  He was issued a ticket and later went to court to appeal it.

Rose was told he would have to take it up with the camera's manufacturer in Phoenix.

Selmer Alderman Paul Simpson said the camera was the mayor's idea.

"We were getting letters," said Simpson.  "Everybody said they wouldn't stop in Selmer and wouldn't go through Selmer."

Selmer's mayor said he wanted to keep the camera, but the aldermen voted to get rid of it.  Last week, after only a few months, the Selmer Speed Tree got the boot.

A fixed camera that has been in Selmer for three years will not be removed.

The mayor of Selmer said the tickets issued by the Selmer Speed Tree will not be dismissed.
