Ban the Cams Note:  Though we have no love of SCAMERAS and don't shed a tear when one is destroyed.  We also don't want people physically attacked.

An investigation has been launched into an arson attack on a speed camera survey van in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The attack took place at 4.45am on the Dundalk to Carrickmacross Road.

The van and the operator were parked at the side of the road when the operator smelled smoke. He got out of the van before it was engulfed in flames.

It is believed a front window was smashed and curtain and seating were set on fire.

The van was completely destroyed in the attack and is now sealed off as part of the investigation by gardaí at Dundalk.

An area is surveyed five times by these vans before a camera is placed.

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has condemned the arson attack on a GoSafe van.
