THE RIGHT WAY TO IMPROVE SAFETY!  Patrols replacing Albuquerque red light cameras

Ban the Cams note: while some people in areas blindly accept the
RLC vendor line of "safety" (like this reporter out of St. Pete today:
http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/red-light-cameras-are-watching-and-thats-a-good-thing/1210384), other places that have experienced RLC long term realize that RLC are NOT a good thing for Safety.

You don't improve safety by sending bills out, you do it by pulling over dangerous drivers.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The controversial red light camera program in Albuquerque may be gone. But Albuquerque police still will be closely watching motorists at the same intersections.
Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry and Police Chief Ray Schultz are scheduled Thursday to announce that motorcycle police units will be monitoring intersections full-time at the same 20 locations where the red light cameras were once located.

The motorcycle units will be looking for speeders and red light runners, and will pass out tickets to violators.

Albuquerque councilors voted 5-4 in October to kill the camera program after voters approved a nonbinding referendum to take the lights down. A University of New Mexico study said the cameras helped reduce crashes at intersections but rear-end and fender-bender accidents jumped.
