Tractor-trailer blocks 101st Airborne Division Parkway in Clarksville

A tractor-trailer rig wrecked on 101st Airborne Division Parkway Wednesday afternoon near Whitfield Road, blocking traffic on the Parkway in all directions.
The truck driven by Michael Blevins, 64, of Clarksville, hit a light pole just after 1:30 p.m., bringing down wires over the road, said Clarksville Police Officer Derrick Cronk at the scene. The truck, going east on 101st, was approaching the intersection and jackknifed while trying to stop, Cronk said. The driver hit the pole on the right side of the road, breaking it in half.
When the light pole fell, the attached street lights came down and hit three vehicles at the intersection. One of the vehicles, a Ford Contour had a street light crash into its windshield. The other two, a Dodge Charger and GMC Envoy, sustained minor damage to the front of the vehicles, according to a news release from Officer Jim Knoll, spokesman for Clarksville Police.
The truck driver suffered a broken arm, but no other significant injuries were reported.
The fuel tanks on the tractor-trailer burst open, spilling about 50 gallons of diesel fuel into the ditch at the roadside, Cronk said.
Clarksville Fire Rescue's Hazmat team were called to the scene, as were workers from the Street Department and the Clarksville Department of Electricity.
At 2:45 p.m., officers were letting cars through in one direction at a time on the parkway. Whitfield was completely blocked, Cronk said.
