Redflex Front Groups invade Texas; Port Lavaca city council spineless reaction
The largest jellyfish in the Gulf Coast reside in the city council of Port Lavaca
When you’re beaten in the court of public opinion, badly, there are only a couple routes for giant, blood-sucking multinational scamera corporations. All roads usually lead down the path of lawsuits and front groups funded by the money extracted from motorists by dangerous red light cameras.
The latest front groups used to facilitate these lawsuits have taken root in Texas. The town council of Port Lavaca, TX has proven to have spineless, jelly-fish like politicians who respond to threats of lawsuits by something called the “Traffic Safety Coalition.“ http://www.facebook.com/TrafficSafetyCoalition (RedFlex ASTRO TURF)
Citizen activists in Port Lavaca(Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=352118962300) collected the needed amount of voter signatures to place a scamera ban on the ballot for May 2011 and have been certified by the city clerk. They have done everything required of them and now the city charter requires its council members to act. The council has chosen not to place the item on the ballot.
TheNewspaper.com features an article today that describes the blatant disregard of city charter which says http://thenewspaper.com/news/34/3424.asp:
“The council shall submit a proposed charter amendment to the voters for their approval at an election if the submission is supported by a petition signed by a number of qualified voters of the municipality equal to at least five percent of the number of qualified voters.”
It couldn’t be any clearer than that. In fact, the mayor knows that this blatant shirking of responsibility is occuring but is admittedly afraid of a lawsuit by the slimeball thugs in (insert benign sounding front group).
This whole scenario appears headed for lawsuits on both sides and is promising to turn into a major black eye for every member of the council including the mayor. Currently they are siding with a corporation over the people of their city, which should make the decisions on who to vote for in upcoming elections very easy. Port Lavaca will surely throw the bums out.
Shame on Mayor Jack Whitlow and council members Floyd Felder, Raymond Perez, Le Rivera, Greg Falcon, Tom Innes, and Ken Barr!
To other cities and towns considering installing red light cameras – look at all the upset citizens, lawsuits and other fun activities you will have to look forward to!
