Minor violations indeed ticketed

Your front-page article last Sunday http://www.redding.com/news/2011/oct/29/city-reviews-red-light-camera-use/ regarding "red-light cameras" stated that the videos are viewed by Redflex, and then reviewed by Redding police officers, who toss out the tickets "if the violations are minor."

I was caught on camera in August 2010. After slowing almost to a stop, I made a right turn on a red light at the corner of Cypress Avenue and Bechelli Lane at 8:15 a.m. on a clear day with extremely light traffic. That was about the most minor violation one could imagine. I went to court to fight it and, as luck would have it, the presiding judge was no judge at all, but a local practicing attorney labeled "judge pro tem." He hit me for a fine of $465.

Someone sure did a selling job on the people of Redding when they sold us those cameras. I say, get rid of those cameras and let the traffic cops, who have more judgment sense than cameras or "pro-tem judges," do their job.
