ST. PETE BEACH - The St. Pete Beach City Council voted 4-1 to repeal red light cameras Tuesday night.
The law to put red light cameras in place was originally passed just a couple of months ago.
The vote back then was 3 to 2, but the new mayor and several new councilmen decided to take a different route.
Mayor Steve McFarlin argued there is no safety concern and cams are tourist unfriendly. He cited research saying 176 collisions had been recorded at signaled intersections in all of St. Pete Beach. Of those, 20 were caused by somebody running a red light.
Three of the cameras were set to go up in the city limits.
