Red light camera supporters miss the point

The elephant in the room for supporters of photo enforcement is that crashes at intersections where red-light cameras have been erected have gone up in most locations after the money-making devices were installed.

It's a convenient little side-step for the red-light camera lovers tell people that if they just obey the traffic rules they'll never get a ticket while ignoring completely the outcome of the program.
Let's re-iterate. Crashes have gone UP at most locations where a red-light camera has been installed.

We've already published the MPI numbers that proves that.

Yet supporters of red-light cameras never seem to have an answer to the burning question: if crashes have gone up, why do we still use these cameras?

At Logan Avenue and Main Street, where improper signage has turned the automated ticket dispenser there into a government cash-cow, average collisions have gone up 18% since the camera was installed.

Average collisions in the two years prior to installation were 28.5 per year. Post-installation they jumped to 33 a year, according to MPI data.

So let's hear it, photo enforcement supporters. What say you about the collision data? Red-light cameras have made our streets less safe, not safer.

Shouldn’t we can this program? Or will you conveniently keep ignoring the elephant in the room?
