Red-light camera sours tourist’s Napa Valley vacation

Several weeks ago, I hosted a group of about 20 people to a visit in Napa. I live in Las Vegas, and have never visited Napa before. We stayed at the Silverado Resort and Spa for three days and had several great meals at some of your fine restaurants. We also toured several wineries and spent several thousand dollars on wine we sent home. We all had a great time and all of us talked of coming back soon.

That attitude lasted until last week, when I received a traffic citation. Apparently I drove through a red light with a camera. I do not remember doing this, but if Napa has a picture of me doing this, I accept it. What I cannot accept is the fine: $479. This is a ridiculous amount of money for a violation that was so insignificant I do not remember it. It is obvious Napa and California are trying to fix their self-inflicted deficit issues by charging obscene fines for minor infractions.

I spent $5,000 the three days I was in Napa. Because of this unreasonable fine, I will never return to your city. Do you think it is worth it?

(Ban the Cams note:  Sounds like a split second mistake.  If you do write protest letter like this (and you should do it), make sure you describe what kind of "violation" the scamera hit you with.  Right turn, stop line, or split second.)
