There will be a blank spot in Snohomish County's local voter's guide come November, and the issue at play has been pretty controversial -- Monroe's use of traffic-enforcement cameras.

Here's a surprise: the politics behind what is happening reportedly are thick, people are accusing each other of dark deeds, and heated emails are flying around between the participants.

If you are interested in wading through all the drama -- in the participants' own words -- check out the documents attached to this post. If you aren't, here's what's up:

Monroe Proposition No. 3 allows Monroe voters to provide nonbinding advice on whether the city should renew a contract for enforcement cameras, two years from now.

The measure was placed on the ballot by the city council after the group earlier decided to go to court to block a vote on an anti-camera initiative.

Mukilteo initiative activist Tim Eyman and others gathered enough signatures from Monroe voters to qualify the anti-camera measure for a vote this fall.

Monroe officials appointed Eyman, former city councilman Chad Minnick and Monroe resident Veronica Rood to prepare a statement opposing Monroe Proposition No. 3.

The group failed to meet a deadline for submitting their statement. Because the committee didn't meet its deadline, the voters pamphlet will be blank where the statement in opposition of Monroe Proposition No. 3 would have gone, Garth Fell, the county's election manager, said Wednesday.

The committee still has a chance to prepare a rebuttal statement to the one prepared in support of the measure. If that happens, though, the committee won't be able to raise new issues, Fell said.

We redacted phone numbers and most email addresses from the attached documents.
