Union City mayor bemoans traffic cameras

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Union City Mayor Terry Hailey says the town is slowly committing economic suicide and traffic cameras are to blame.

According to the Union City Daily Messenger, he told the City Council this past week that a local businessman lost a $1,000 sale because Union City has such cameras.

His comments came as the council discussed extending a contract to keep the cameras. Hailey has repeatedly opposed the cameras.

Officials said if the city continues with the current contract, engineering studies would be needed in 2015.
