Last day for Naperville red-light cameras approaches
Today at 1:13 p.m.
As of midnight Jan. 2, red-light tickets will no longer be issued in Naperville.
Naperville city officials voted last month to reject the renewal of the red-light camera contract, a move that is expected to cost the city $261,000 in projected revenue.
The cameras are located at Route 59 and Diehl Road, Route 59 and North Aurora Road, and at Ogden and Aurora avenues in Naperville. The city already planned to end the program in 2012 because of a Route 59 widening project. The vote simply cut off the ticket program earlier than expected.
While tickets will no longer be issued beginning Jan. 2, the equipment will be removed at a later date, according to Marcie Schatz, Naperville’s transportation, engineering and development director.
