NEW ORLEANS – A high-ranking NOPD officer is being looked at as the target of an official police inquiry.
4 Investigates has learned that Police Association President Michael Glasser is being accused of altering the license plate on his police vehicle.
It is a particularly touchy subject because Captain Glasser is the integrity control officer for the NOPD’s special operations division – among other things, the department is involved in handing out red light camera tickets.
According to Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas, Glasser’s NOPD-issued take home vehicle was observed with a device over the license plate that obscures the numbers and letters on that plate.
Serpas said the device makes the plate undetectable to red light cameras and patrol officers.
The device is prohibited by both state law and departmental policy.
Serpas said the inquiry could lead to a full blown investigation and possible disciplinary action.
“We’ve got all kinds of violations that we see every day that we hold the citizens accountable for and we also hold the officers accountable for,” said Serpas. “It’s a troubling thing that a senior level member may be involved in this kind of foolishness.”
Captain Glasser is still on the job while the Police Integrity Bureau looks into the matter. At the moment he is not allowed to drive his police car.
