Clearawater seeks RLC Bids, DOESN'T want Citizens review, only "traffic safety" experts on committee!

As reported by the St. Pete Times, http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/clearwater-to-seek-bids-for-red-light-cameras/1158263 Clearwater wants to get bids.

No doubt they will pick the most BUSY intersections with the claim, we had X number of RLV violations WITHOUT ANY BREAKDOWN AT ALL.

As reported in Haines city, many of those violations will be techincal fouls like right turns on red.  Haines city issued 4794 in 2011 right turn on red, despite this supposedly being not allowed by the Wandall Scamera act.  http://www.newschief.com/article/20110304/NEWS/103045155/1021/news01?p=all&tc=pgall  (Clearwaters says it won't cite for it, but that doesn't mean the scamera company won't count those in their surveys of intersections they want to put a RLC in!)

Let us not forget about Stopping over the stop line "vilolations".  http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/10/1040.asp

As well as Under a second violations that are the result of short yellows (something HB 149 in Florida WOULD FORCE TO BE INCREASED, thereby incresing SAFETY!  http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Bills/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=44982&SessionId=66) , that recently in NJ were REDUCED BY 88% when AMBER TIMES WERE INCREASED for straight thru violations.  http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/34/3418.asp

The most blatant propoganda I felt was this statement:

"I don't think we should wait any longer than we have to wait to prevent even one death from a red-light runner," Doran said. "

Because folks:

"Over the last two years, police counted 26 fatal crashes within the city, figures show. Police said two of those crashes were related to red-light running."

WHAT WAS THE REASON THE RLV CRASH HAPPENED???  HMMM.

Ban the cams did a post on Tampa Bay Fatal RLV crahes that we could find for 2010, THE VAST MAJORITY WOULD NEVER BE PREVENTED BY A RLC!  Go see yourself.  Over half the deaths were DUI!  http://www.banthecams.org/20110130840/Why-most-RLV-crashes-WILL-NOT-BE-PREVENTED-BY-RLC.html

(Ban the CAMS NOTE:  IF you want to see HOW USELESS A RLC really is AT STOPPING RLV CRASHES, watch the video here that is LARGELY captured by a RLC!  THE RLC DOCUMENTED ITS OWN FAILURE TO PREVENT THE WRECK!  http://www.banthecams.org/20100520213/Videos-that-show-RLC-WILL-NOT-WORK-THEY-DIDN-T-STOP-THESE-CRASHES-where-they-were-installed.html)

Even more disturbing is this Quote:

"Doran suggested Thursday that the council assemble a committee to weigh the program's objectives, assess alternatives and lead a campaign to advertise the cameras' advantages to the public. Members hesitated after debating whether the group should consist of residents or traffic experts."

The "traffic safety" experts will be sCAMERA HACKS!  LET THE CITIZENS BE ON THIS!  Better YET CLEARWATER!

LET YOUR VOTERS DECIDE!

ON the bright side the press is starting to get wind of the tatics scamera vendors and cities use in their scam:

"The camera programs have met with stiff resistance in West Palm Beach, where defense attorneys have helped overturn dozens of tickets. Camera footage, they argued, lacked visual clarity or timestamps that could serve as indisputable evidence. The city and camera contractor American Traffic Solutions fought back, sending attorneys to defend the tickets.

(Ban the CAMS NOTE:  West Palm Beach CHANGED THE HEARING OFFICER to get more FAVORABLE RULINGS TOO!  It is called STACKING THE DECK:  http://www.banthecams.org/20110223919/West-Palm-Beach-and-ATS-SHOP-for-NEW-Hearing-officer-for-RLC-TRIAL-for-one-sided-outcome.html)

The battle over cameras hasn't stopped at the state line. In Wenatchee, Wash., the city attorney has taken civic activists to court for opposing the city's program.

And last month, in Baltimore, thousands of tickets faced a potential overturn after reporters discovered they had been "approved" by a police officer months after his death. The error, officials said, began with a computer glitch."
