RIDGELAND, SC I-95 ILLEGAL SPEED CAMERA TICKET TEA PARTY PROTEST!

TOSS YOUR ILLEGAL I-95 RIDGELAND, SC Speed CAMERA TICKETS IN THE TRASH TEA PARTY!

Ban the Cams feels it is time to call Ridgeland on their illegal practices of using SPEED SCAEMRAS on I-95.  The usually claim is it is for “safety”.  But if the drivers were acting unsafe, WHY ARE THEY NOT PULLING THEM OVER!  Because the SAFETY EXCUSE IS A LIE!
In fact in the UK a few years ago a study was done (AND HIDDEN BY THE UK GOVERNMENT!) THAT PROVED THAT THE SPEED SCAEMRAS CAUSED MORE WRECKS!
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/06/602.asp
Effect on Personal Injury Accidents
Enforcement Type Construction Zone No Construction

Even groups like Camerafraud and others have even showed that the safety claims of camera vendors are more propaganda than fact!  http://camerafraud.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/dps-2009-numbers-not-all-they-are-cracked-up-to-be/   Earlier this year a article published by www.thenewspaper.com looked at the US fatality rates (PUBLISHED BY NHTSA) and found that towns without speed cameras DID BETTER THAN PHOENIX!  http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/32/3268.asp

Quote: "During 2008, accidents dropped an impressive 31.5 percent. According to BLS data, however, the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area experienced the third-largest drop in employment in the country -- 86,800 jobs. Other areas, such as Greenbay, Wisconsin and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina saw greater accident reductions, 52.6 percent and 47.7 percent respectively, even though photo enforcement is banned in both states."

Ban the CAMS thinks it is time for a TEA party protest of the ILLEGAL RIDGELAND, SC I-95 tickets. So for those of you who intend not to pay this ILLEGAL CAMERA PROGRAM! DO WHAT OUR ANCESTORS DID WHEN THE KING TRIED TO TAX US TOO MUCH IN BOSTON, TOSS THE OFFENDING ITEMS OVERBOARD!

TOSS THE ILLEGAL SPEED CAMERA TICKETS IN THE TRASH!

 LET THE TEA PARTY BEGIN!

(Note this is not legal advice, but a protest, if you want legal advice

Realize this the TOWN IS BREAKING THE LAW BASED ON THE AG OPINIONS.  How can you threaten “arrest” if what the town is doing is ILLEGAL to begin with!

Refund of Ridgeland illegal scamea tickets
written by Stephen Donaldson , February 01, 2012

I think they are refunding some tickets.

I would suggest you consider contacting either one of the attorneys involved in the class action or (and this is NOT legal advice) consider sending a certified return receipt letter demanding a refund of the scamera ticket. If it were me, I would even consider threatening to sue if they don't. http://www.wltx.com/news/artic...ra-Lawsuit The "attorney Pete Strom has asked to amend the lawsuit complaint and add more plaintiffs">> http://stromlaw.com/ There is also another thread on this you might want to look at: http://www.banthecams.org/Pres...-i-95.html

I am a Massachusetts driver that was traveling down I-95 on 2/19/2011. I was traveling behind a car about two car lengths ahead when all of a sudden I seen a flash. I was photographed as well as my car and tags. I received a citation in the mail that was mailed from zip code 29936 on Feb.28 2011. I read the citation and it said I was traveling 84 MPH which I was not. I was traveling to FL. using my speed control which was set between 75-77 mph. The ticket is for $133. They say I either pay, show for a hearing or have my license suspended. Any legal advice? BTW how is that flash suppose to ensure safety? I jammed on my brakes and could have easily caused an accident.

Mad as heck!
written by Michelle Reddy , March 07, 2011

I was driving back from Florida in Jan. when I was startled by a big flash and slammed on my brakes, not sure of what had happened! I am very lucky the car behind me didn't hit me! Two weeks later I received a ticket in the mail for going 83 in a 70 speed zone. $133.00 and 4pts. I sent my fine in and requested that it be reduced. The next day I received a call from the Ridgeland police dept. stating they had received my $133.00 and there would be no points! I was glad they gave me no points, but it proves that all they want is the money! If I could have afforded it, I would have definately hired a lawyer!

My Dad in Hilton Head just informed me prior to my drive for Christmas to him about this. Like another poster, I've never gotten a ticket in SC, or Ridgeland but I am still not excited about the travel through tomorrow. Having said that, I thought I would look on Ridgeland's town site to see what they were saying. They believe in the changing behavior theory. Next time we travel 95 after getting a ticket, we'll respect the speed limit to the T I guess. Adding that by having officers risk their lives doing clerical work (writing tickets) vs. capturing the speed, this takes care of all issues.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the work of Cops. Ask my wife, I love watching all the police reality shows and seeing these dirtbags get busted for being idiots. Which brings me to my biggest point. Most traffic stops (at least filmed) uncover human behavior and hidden contraband. How many illegal drug runs are made from NY to FL? I bet they would love to only get a $200 ticket in the mail. Capturing those kind of crooks would offer a better service to the community or nation as a whole. Maybe Ridgeland isn't concerned with all that or they don't want their Barney Fife to deal with real criminals.

I am just tired as hell of people always trying to stick their hands in my pockets. Find another way to get my $ legally. Like a fundraiser, car wash or open some businesses in your town. Just a few thoughts! Merry Christmas.

Safety?!
written by Shocked Driver , December 12, 2010

perhaps I was going over the speed limit but here are the facts:
I had just pulled into the left lane & accelerated to pass a semi when boom,
totally unexpected there was a bright slash of light & instinctively as with the blogger
before I too hit my breaks causing the car behind me to follow suite.
How can you call this an enforcement of safety when there are no signs posted warning you that you may encounter such a sudden & abnormal distraction.
Your camera endangered the occupants in our car & those around us more then any thing else going on. Never mind the fact that my eyes were fixed on the rear mirror trying to piece together what had just taken place, only further more distracting me!
It seems that this is the only town in the country using these cameras & if, like in my case, you are from out of state, you my never even have herd of a Highway Speed Camera before. Should it not be required of Ridgeland to at lest post signs in order to operate these cameras safely?!
Note: just earlier this year Arizona abolished their Highway Speed Camera program!

ok you got ridgeland
written by concerned traveler , December 10, 2010

yes you got me, and i am awaiting the ticket in the mail but i must say using a blazing RED flash is stupid. I nearly caused an accident once it went off. I was behind a big rig and i thought it was locking up its breaks so i did as well. Then the several cars behind me followed suit. The camera in itself is dangerous, please use a green light. The eyes are better suited for that color than a brilliant blazing red especially when red is used by emergency vehicles and stop lights.

This should stop
written by Clyde Sheffield , December 04, 2010

First let me state that I am not a mad person with ticket from Ridgeland SC. I have never recieved a tickets in Ridgeland, SC or SC ever. This system is only for raising money for the city of Ridgeland. They don't care about your safety, just your money.
The reason this should stop is because if Ridgeland SC is successful in doing this, every city in America will follow. In the day and time that we are in, we the public is were the money is, and every city is trying to raise money anyway that they can. We the public bought this road, we maintain this road and they are only trying to make money off of it.

Statistics
written by jennings , November 12, 2010

Here's a link to the SC Department of Safety's records through 2008. http://www.scdps.org/ohs/stat_services.asp

Each year listed is broken down further by county, and investigating agency. In Ridgeland there was one fatality in 2006, no fatal crashes in Ridgeland in the year 2007 and only one in 2008, with no cameras present.
