(BAN THE CAMS NOTE:  BanCams in WA State is up against a well funded SCAMERA GROUP TRYING TO DENY A VOTE.

ATS Front group has now asked the WASHINGTON SUPREME COURT TO DENY A PUBLIC VOTE!

So much for the "polls" claiming public support of photo enforcement.  When you have to resort to denying a PUBLIC VOTE to keep the scam going, you know something is wrong!

If you are so inclined and would like to help, BanCams in WA State has where to go to help with the fight!)

We need your help!by Ban Traffic Cameras in Washington State! on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 3:24pm
Dear BanCams.com Supporter,

We need your help! The camera company, American Traffic Solutions (ATS), has filed a lawsuit  to stop the Mukilteo initiative from going on the November ballot. Last month Snohomish County Superior Court judge Michael T. Downes rejected their argument and said that the initiative could go forward. But they have appealed his decision and we are now waiting on a judgment from the Washington State Supreme Court. We are very optimistic that this will be decided in our favor, but we need your help to cover the legal fees. As you probably know we are in a position where we had to hire legal council to defend the city’s ability to put the Mukilteo initiative on the ballot. Since the city doesn’t actually want the initiative on the ballot we had to intervene to make sure they win the case.

The down side is that securing a legal defense to protect the work we have done is expensive. We are writing you today because we have to raise $5,000 for our legal fees. Can we count on you to support our fight by making a symbolic contribution of $124, the price of a red-light camera ticket?

Our lawyer has done an awesome job representing our side in court. He has also been very patient about being paid, but now is the time to pay him. ATS has millions of dollars to fight with, but we are just ordinary people. We have made arrangements with our fellow co-sponsor of the initiative, Washington Campaign for Liberty, to take online payments for the legal fees. If you cannot afford the full price of a ticket, please consider cutting it in half and donate $62, it would still be a very helpful donation. We have hundreds of supporters, if all of you contribute, we will reach our goal, and so that all of the costs won’t come out of our pockets.

Some of you have already donated, thank you! If you have not donated yet or would like to donate again, you can make a donation online through our fellow co-sponsor of the initiative, Washington Campaign for Liberty. Or you can make checks payable to: Groen Stephens Law Firm and write “Mukilteo Initiative #2″ in the note field and send the checks to : Groen Stephens Law Firm – Mukilteo Initiative ; 11100 Northeast 8th Street;  Bellevue, WA 98004-4469

We appreciate everything you have done to help us push back Big Brother and create a safer driving experience, people like you really make a difference. We have successfully passed many milestones along our journey to end photo-fraud statewide and we are anxious to report the next victory, thank you for your contribution.

Thank you for your help,
Nick and Tiffany Sherwood

Another Ticket Camera Success Story
Posted on August 31st, 2010 in James Baxter, Red-Light Cameras | Comments (0)

By James Baxter, NMA President

The report is in from Baytown, TX, on the results of the city’s red light ticket camera program.  http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/32/3236.asp

The camera proponents are going to be hard pressed to lavish praise on the results:

•40 percent increase in total accidents
•75 percent increase in injury accidents
•37 percent increase in “t-bone” right angle crashes
•83 percent increase in rear-end collisions

These disastrous results should really be no surprise. Independent studies http://www.motorists.org/red-light-cameras/studies (no financial interest) of the automated intersection ticketing programs have repeatedly shown an increase in rear- end collisions, more injuries, and contrary to the claims of ticket camera proponents, no reduction in right-angle crashes.

But, tomorrow, just as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west there will be a government official or clueless reporter making the claim that red light cameras improve traffic safety.

Baytown officials are being presented with a petition to put ticket cameras to a vote in November.

If these officials are really concerned about the well-being of their constituents they won’t wait until November to put the cameras down the road.

If they do wait until November, the voters would be well served to treat incumbent officials as they do the red light camera program and put them down the road too.

“Photo Enforcement” Becomes Toxic

“Photo Enforcement” Becomes Toxic
What do you do when your industry approaches market saturation and increased public opposition?

This is the question the peddlers of automated ticketing will have to start asking themselves in the immediate future if they hope to survive in any form whatsoever.

Almost all large United States cities have been approached by either Redflex or American Traffic Solutions pitching the tired, debunked claims of improved traffic safety.

Unfortunately for these companies, voters and drivers have awakened to the scheme and are opposing new and existing systems worldwide over a variety of reasons, from civil liberties concerns to the proper role of government.

Smaller and smaller communities are being being swindled into signing contracts with these corporations, resulting in millions of dollars being extracted from local economies and sent directly to the profiteering vendors.

The blowback to such installations has ranged from expected opposition to cold-blooded murder. Last week, the confessed shooter of a Redflex photo radar van driver in Arizona was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Unclear is the liability the State of Arizona will face for their “romp in the bed” with corporatism in the form of photo enforcement. Redflex was contractually obligated to provide “public service announcements” to explain automated ticketing to the public when the statewide ticketing contract was signed with the Department of Public Safety.

Banksters and Automatic Ticketing Machines
August 13, 2010 by Alex
Truth is stranger than fiction. This is so unbelievable, you just couldn’t dream this story up!

Did you know that Goldman Sachs purchased a large share of ATS (American Traffic Solutions)? In case you haven’t been following the issue, that’s the company that schills the revenue-generating, safety-reducing, privacy-invading red light traffic cameras.

When did they do it? Just after receiving its share of taxpayer funded bailout money, of course!

So, let’s see…ATS received a pile of money from the bailout boys at Goldman Sachs to continue their invasion of your privacy and treat you like an ATM. What a convenient way to line both the pockets of the traffic camera pushers and the banksters!

But wait – there’s more! At about the same time, our good friends at Berkshire Hathaway (who just happen to be the parent company of insurance giant GEICO) poured $5 Billion into Goldman Sachs.

What does that have to do with the price of tea? Well, when drivers are ticketed, in most states their insurance premiums go up. Could it be that the insurance companies are in cahoots with the banks, who are investing in the traffic camera companies? No, that couldn’t happen here in the land of the free…could it?

Sad but true, local municipalities are  desperate for revenue these days. Of course, we know that revenue = your money. So, what do they do?

1.  These cash-strapped municipalities enter into contract with ATS to use the force of government to drive their revenue lust.
2.  ATS and Goldman Sachs make a killing from their profit sharing agreement with your city officials.
3.  And oh – by the way – GEICO increases its insurance profits helping Goldman Sachs make even more money.

What an obscene miscarriage of the public trust -  using government force to invade our privacy, take our money and help banking giants get even richer – all in the name of “Public Safety”! Could this be what is called corporatism?

Read the words of ATS President James Tuton:

“When Goldman Sachs bought a major share of American Traffic Solutions (ATS) in 2008, ATS president James Tuton was quoted in the Phoenix Business Journal: ‘As more cities use ATS’s photo radar and red-light cameras, an increasing number are deciding to follow suit — particularly in tight economic times, when they are seen as revenue generators.’ “

And this quote found in the Seattle Times from Seattle Mayor McGinn when asked about his city’s Arizona Boycott:

“Except the boycott leaves out the only meaningful contract the city has with an Arizona company — the 30 red-light cameras that spit out tickets and rake in millions for the city.

McGinn answered bluntly when asked why the red-light cameras contract was not part of the boycott. ‘You may have noticed we have a budget deficit here,’ he said.”

Anytime a city official chooses to lie to you about how these invasive Automatic Ticketing Machines are about “public safety” it’s time to think about replacing city officials.

If they are willing to be less than truthful about ATMs, what else will they lie about?

Redflex Sales Hucksters are Commission-Based
August 19, 2010

Hi, Vince here from Redflex! Get ready to "snapshot" your way out of wreckless, drunken government spending with our new ScamWow! It's so easy!
Lobbyists who visit local city councils for Redflex are compensated on a commission-based scheme, and in one instance the cash was promised to be split with the wife of a local judge:

[Redflex] which also operates Victorian red light cameras – is at the centre of several court actions in Louisiana after a local council outside New Orleans turned off the cameras last January amid concerns company lobbyists were earning a share from camera fines…

Redflex Holdings allegedly agreed to pay 3.2 per cent of its share of camera revenue to the former United States councillor, who subsequently arranged to split the cash with the wife of a local judge.

Okay, camera apologi$t$: tell u$ again how it’$ not all about the money?

WHO IS REALLY BEHIND THE EFFORT IN BAYTOWN AND HOUSTON TO KEEP US FROM VOTING ON THE RED LIGHT CAMERAS?

The red light camera company and their hired guns Andy Taylor and Jim McGrath, that's who. (more on them farther down the page). They all know that every time citizens have been allowed to vote on photo enforcement their client has lost, and lost MILLIONS! They know the cameras are very unpopular and will do or say ANYTHING to silence our voices. They set up a front group in Baytown and Houston using money from the camera company to pose as if they were organized and financed by average citizens that want to keep the cameras. Their group filed their treasurer appointment last year. The PAC address is the treasurer's residence in a lower income apartment complex on Garth road. Their treasurer, according to Harris county voter records is not even a registered voter! That’s right, she couldn’t even vote on our election if it were held today! Mr Taylor is the person on record appointing the treasurers for both the Baytown and Houston groups. He had so much trouble finding a respected Baytown citizen to appoint as treasurer for the PAC representing the Goldman Sachs Owned Arizona camera company that he had to resort to someone that can’t vote AND HAS A RED LIGHT CAMERA TICKET! That’s right, a person with the same name as their treasurer at the same address listed on the PAC paperwork was issued a red light camera ticket on 2/20/2010 at N/B Garth @ I-10, (violation # 0741000041334). There have been so many tickets issued in Baytown, (over 34,000 tickets issued so far. est. Population of Baytown, 72,215), that the camera company couldn’t even find a registered voter to help them out that hasn’t received a ticket!

If the City or ACS had a solid case about safety, wouldn't they jump at the chance to publically put us in our place and shut us up?

Photo Enforcement Industry looks for "new" ways to listen in. (1984 Nightmare)

Presentations

Ban the Cams note:  for those of you who read the book 1984, don't think for a moment that this could not be done.  The photo enforcement industry is out for money, they don't care how they churn it!

In fact in Austrailia they have developed AUDIO photo enforcement (10/21/2008) to:

Quote:  State governments across Australia are poised to deploy automated cameras that mail tickets to vehicles considered by a machine to be noisy. The fully automated noise camera systems have been in development since 2005 but are now are active and issuing warning notices in the small New South Wales suburb of Mount Ousley, according to the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) Annual Report. The agency is looking for a regulatory means of making such ticketing solutions more common.

Additional quote:  The commission approved the regulation against engine compression brakes last November. The ticketing system can also be easily expanded to issue citations for loud subwoofers, noisy exhausts, or even an inopportune honk of the horn.

I wonder if they will cite for swearing next?????

Say Hello to “Audio Enforcement”
July 5, 2010
…Just don’t say it too loudly, or with the wrong tone of voice: you might be subject to arrest.

In the never-ending quest for absolute control and monitoring of the general population by opportunistic government agencies and crony corporations, Raw Story presents a story from Europe which could only be called “audio enforcement.”

Dutch company Sound Intelligence installed microphones in train stations, government buildings, prisons, as well as “London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester” according to the article.

The technology supposedly operates by detecting “tone of voice” changes which may indicate a fight or other crime is about to take place. Just like the company’s cousins in the automated ticketing business, all privacy and civil liberty concerns are downplayed and ignored.

Photo enforcement and audio enforcement could go hand-in-hand. Redflex has a significant history in the area of audio technology: before primarily focusing on photo radar vans and “scameras,” the company specialized in secure communication links geared towards government and military applications.

Will Lakeland, FL be the first to Ignore the law on NO tickets for right turns on red????

Presentations

Ban the Cams would like to thank Mike Williams for sharing this picture of a new Lakeland Red Light Scamera Sign.

Please note the new addition:  "Includes right turns".

It makes us wonder here at Ban the Cams, does Lakeland intend to count every right turn on red as “dangerous”.  It sure seems that way based on this sign.

Many towns like Lakeland write the vast majority of their Scamera Tickets for this non-dangerous act.
