A little history on the Orlando Sentinel's RLC stance.
The Orlando Sentinel recently did a editorial trying to save the RLC SCAM! http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/opinion/os-ed-red-light-cameras-leadership-0420110426,0,2540884.story
Besides the usual IIHS garbage, you know the "study" that DIDN'T even compare NON CAMERA INTERSECTIONS WITH CAMERA INTERSECTIONS. They used Towns.

Quote:
The results reflect citywide accident numbers, not figures at photo enforced locations.
The problem with this overly simplistic method is that it credits red light cameras with accident reductions that take place at intersections without any cameras. It also ignores the natural reduction in fatality rates that happens as automobiles become more crashworthy and hospital trauma care improves over time. Overall, between 1992 and 2008, the fatality rate nationwide dropped 28 percent. The rate is down 35 percent in 2009, representing the lowest rate since records were first kept in 1950.
But I thought I would share with you that fact that one Editorial Member was a BIT TOO COZY in the past with the RLC side.

Quote: Over the past couple years, we’ve noticed a suspicious number of ticket camera editorials by the Orlando Sentinel. After looking more closely, we noticed that nearly every editorial in the Sentinel was strongly in favor of installing ticket cameras. Furthermore, we noticed that nearly every pro-camera article was written by one member of the Sentinel’s Editorial Board, George Diaz.
This seemed odd, so we decided to look into it further.
After some quick research, we discovered that George Diaz appeared at a symposium held by The National Campaign To Stop Red Light Running in late 2007.
As we covered on this blog previously, the organization is simply a front for corporate special interests — specifically the red light camera industry. It is directly funded by RedFlex, Affiliated Computer Systems (ACS), and Gatso — all red light ticket camera vendors.
This corporate special interest group even describes Mr. Diaz as “the paper’s point man on editorials pushing for red light camera legislation in Florida“.
Though I have no idea if DIAZ was involved in writing that "piece", it wouldn't suprise me if his fingerprints were not somehow involved given his past involvement with the scamera vendor dog and pony show in 2007.
But I will offer this challange to this paper.
If you really think the public "wants" RLC. LET THE VOTERS DECIDE! No polls, just a vote this November. Come on lets see how "accurate" those polls are! I dont' think ATS wants to find out again after HOUSTON!
