HOUSTON - Opponents of Houston's red-light cameras declare a victory in their fight to ban the devices.
A lawsuit filed to block a vote on red-light cameras was dropped in federal court.
Organizers of the campaign to put the issue to public vote say the suit would have failed if it had gone forward.
"They were afraid to show their proof that they told city council that they had that this would dilute minority voting," attorney Paul Kubosh said.
"This has been a ridiculous. This is has been nothing more than a Arizona-based pact trying to deny the citizens of Houston their right to vote on whether or not they want to keep these dangerous cameras or not."
Barring a last-ditch legal challenge, Houston voters will decide in November if red-light cameras will remain in place.
