Is NHTSA 48% claim counting NON traffic light accidents in their numbers????
I recently came across this claim in a Miami article on All Red Clearance Intervals out of Miami.
"According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, intersectional accidents account for 48-percent of injury-related traffic accidents nationwide"
Here is a problem with that "claim". They FAIL TO MENTION THAT THEY ARE VERY LIKEY COUNTING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS in NON TRAFFIC LIGHTS INTERSECTIONS.
In Florida the RLV crash number for 2009 (Disregarded Signal Crashes) was
56 out of 2,563 total. http://www.flhsmv.gov/hsmvdocs/CS2009.pdf
You can see a full breakdown of a number of years here:
So if there were 56 RLV fatals out of 2,563 in 2009, HOW DOES THAT ADD UP to 48%??????
Seems like they are COUNTING NON TRAFFIC LIGHT NUMBERS IN THEIR CLAIM!
Don't ya think!
