As Brooksville FL FINALLY LISTENS TO ITS CITIZENS, another Florida town is lurred by the "easy" money of the RLC addiction, New Port Richey.

The decision is not made about PUBLIC SAFETY, BUT MONEY!

Quote:  "But at a budget hearing last month, members spoke of the cameras as a way to make their roads safer and generate new revenue in their dwindling budget.
Interim police Chief Jeff Harrington said the city could, based on vendors' estimates, earn $500,000 a year per intersection in fines."

The Chief goes on " New Port Richey among the five worst cities of its size for crashes resulting in injuries or deaths, alcohol-related crashes and crashes involving pedestrians"

The Problem here with the Chief's "reasons" is that RLC WILL NOT STOP IT!

1. Does anyone honestly believe that a drunk who is IMPARIED is going to realize that a cameara is there!  IN fact DRUNKS MIGHT WANT THE RLC SINCE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GET PULLED OVER AND HAULED OFF TO JAIL!   (It  is a boldface LIE (or ignorance) to think a camera will stop a drunk).

2.  MANY OF THOESE PEDESTRIAN DEATHS ARE DUE TO PEOPLE CROSSING THE ROAD (in many cases drunk themselves) in the middle of the night BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS!  (Go do a search in  the St. Pete Times of artcles on pedestrian deaths on that section of US 19 if you don't believe me.  I have read a lot of them over the years I have lived in Tampa Bay).

So New Port Richey,  QUIT LYING ON RLC BEING USED FOR SAFETY!  Is is quite shallow.

Tell the world why.  MONEY!

At least Mayor Scott McPherson and Judy DeBella Thomas dissented against the Scameras.   They know bad public policy when they see it!
