Melissa Wandall - Using a Widow's Grief to Scam the PublicPosted by: Henry Stowe in Blogs on May 23, 2010 Tagged in: camera companies

Melissa Wandall is the widow of Mark Wandall, a 30 year old man who was killed by a red light runner in Bradenton, FL.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are rather cloudy, but it appears that the light had been red for some time when the cars collided. The girl driving the car which hit Wandall and his brother in law had several red light violations on her record and only lost her license for a few months following the accident.
Instead of going after repeat offenders who may pose some danger, she was picked by the camera companies and Representative Ron Reagan to do their bidding for them in front of the legislature, in front of law enforcement and anyone else who could profit from violating the constitution. Now, she says that she wantsto go after repeat offenders. Look for her to advocate points on drivers licenses for red light camera violations. Look for most of these "repeat offenders" to be people who merely make a rolling right on red, which comprises a whopping 0.038 % of all accidents, injuries or fatalities.
In other words, the hammer will fall even more heavily on technical foul violators. Unfortunately, telegenic as she is, she is not going to go away. Melissa will undoubtedly be repeatedly used by camera profiteers for their own purposes. As before, she will likely go along.
Having met her, she seems like a nice person, but she is determined in her convictions. She is also persuasive to shallow, empty headed or downright statist politicians. As for Representative Reagan, he will likely use his continued donations to run for another office as he is term limited out.
I don't think that 225 lb bag of gas is going to stop at being a two bit representative from a coastal town like Bradenton. As for Governor Crist, he is a notorious weather vane with little understanding of anything that he hears, sees or reads. In a better society, he would make a great funeral director. I guess he must have consulted his mother on whether or not to sign the bill. In any case, Crist is done for now. He's going to come in third. He claims to be the "people's governor."
Which people does he represent?
